Puppy Care & Health Information
Everything below is what we tell every new owner on the day their puppy comes home. Keep this page — your veterinarian will want to see the pet passport, and the two together cover your puppy’s first months.
1 Feeding
- Feed your puppy twice a day: once in the morning and once in the evening.
- We recommend Hill’s and Royal Canin. We have been feeding your puppy Gemon (an Italian brand). Gemon may not be available everywhere in Cyprus, but changing to another suitable puppy food is absolutely fine.
- Always choose a food specifically formulated for puppies, whichever brand you select.
- Follow the feeding guide on the packaging and choose the daily amount that matches your puppy’s current body weight. Divide the daily amount between the two meals.
- We will give you some of the food your puppy is currently eating. For the first meals, mix the current food and the new food approximately 50/50. If possible, continue the change gradually over several days to make the transition easier on your puppy’s stomach.

What your puppy eats now
Whichever you choose, it must be a food formulated for puppies.
2 Fresh water
- Fresh, clean drinking water must be available at all times.
3 Vaccinations and pet passport
- All vaccinations your puppy has received, together with their validity dates, are recorded in the pet passport.
- Your puppy has completed the initial vaccination programme. Please take the pet passport to your local veterinarian, who will confirm when each booster vaccination is due. The timing may vary depending on the vaccine used and local veterinary recommendations.
4 Rabies vaccination and travel
- Your puppy has received a rabies vaccination, and its validity is recorded in the pet passport.
- Rabies vaccination is mainly relevant when travelling outside Cyprus. Before any international trip or flight, ask your veterinarian to check that the vaccination will still be valid, and confirm the entry requirements of the destination country and the airline.
5 Deworming
- Regular deworming is important. The treatments your puppy has already received are recorded in the pet passport.
- Your puppy also received a deworming tablet before travelling to you. Your local veterinarian will advise you on the usual deworming schedule in Cyprus and recommend a suitable product.
6 Tick prevention
- Use a veterinarian-recommended tick-prevention product, such as spot-on drops, especially when your puppy begins going outdoors and meeting other dogs.
- Your veterinarian can recommend a product suitable for your puppy’s age and weight, and explain how often it should be applied.
