How Much Does a Puppy Cost in Cyprus? What the Price Includes

A puppy from an EU breeder, brought to Cyprus by a licensed seller with all its papers, costs from about €1,150 to €1,800 with us, depending on the breed. Adverts on classified sites start much lower. This article explains what the price pays for, why breeds differ, and what to check before you pay anyone.

Our prices by breed

These are our starting prices. The exact price of your puppy is always set out in a written confirmation before you pay anything.

What the price includes

  • Microchip. The puppy is identified before it travels, and the number is recorded in its documents.
  • Vaccinations and deworming, appropriate to its age, including the rabies vaccination required for the journey.
  • Two veterinary examinations. One by our own veterinarian, and an official one by an authorised veterinarian within 48 hours of departure, who confirms the puppy is fit to travel.
  • An EU pet passport with the microchip number, vaccinations, treatments and the pre-travel examination, handed to you with the puppy.
  • TRACES registration. The journey is recorded in the EU animal health system, and we handle the paperwork.
  • An escorted journey. The puppy travels with an attendant who holds an EU certificate of competence for transporting animals.
  • Delivery within Cyprus to the handover place agreed with you.

Together, these are what make the puppy's journey legal and traceable, from the breeder to your door.

Why some breeds cost more

  • Litter size. A Chihuahua, Yorkshire Terrier or Toy Poodle usually has only a few puppies in a litter. A Labrador or Golden Retriever often has twice as many, so the breeder's costs are spread over more puppies.
  • Demand. Maltipoos, Cavapoos and Toy Poodles are among the most searched-for dogs in Cyprus, and good breeders have waiting lists.
  • Size and colour within a breed. A smaller Toy Poodle or a rarer colour can cost more than its littermates. That is why some litters show a "from" price.

Before you pay anyone

Most problems with puppy purchases start with the payment. Whoever you buy from, check these:

  • Is the seller registered? A licensed seller can give you a Veterinary Services licence number and a company registration number you can check. Ours are on every page.
  • How old is the puppy? Under EU rules, a puppy coming to Cyprus from another EU country needs a rabies vaccination at 12 weeks or older and then a 21-day wait, so it arrives at about 15 weeks at the earliest. A much younger puppy "from abroad" should make you ask how it travelled.
  • Does it have an EU pet passport? Ask to see it at handover, and check that the microchip number matches the puppy.
  • How much do you pay up front? A deposit against a written confirmation and a receipt is normal. Paying the full price before you have seen the puppy is not.
  • Do the payment details change? If you are suddenly asked to pay into a different account, stop and call the seller on a number you already know.

With us you pay a deposit of usually €300–500 against a written confirmation and a receipt, and the balance only at handover, after you have met your puppy. Our How it works page explains each step, and our bank details are on the payment page and never change.

Costs after the puppy comes home

The price of the puppy is the largest single cost, but not the only one. Plan for these in the first year:

  • a first visit to your own vet in the first days, and the remaining vaccinations on the schedule the vet gives you;
  • protection against ticks all year, and against the sandflies that carry leishmaniasis from about May to October; our puppy care sheet explains both;
  • good puppy food, a bed, a crate, a harness and lead, and toys;
  • a groomer every four to eight weeks for Poodles, Maltipoos, Cavapoos, Shih Tzus, Yorkshire Terriers and Havanese;
  • any registration required where you live, which your vet can tell you about.

Ask your vet for a price list at the first visit, so the year holds no surprises.
